LMU-PLUS Practical Learning and Study

DFG Instrumentenkasten

Deutsche Version

Key qualifications for students

The conversion of degree programs to bachelors and masters, consolidation of courses, and greater emphasis on key qualifications during the course of studies present the university and students with new challenges. The need for practical seminars and training courses that provide key qualifications outside of the curriculum is increasing. The Women's Representative’s LMU-PLUS Program helps meet this demand.

Practical qualification

With this offering, students of the LMU can obtain key qualifications relevant to their studies and profession. A diverse range of training courses helps participants organize their studies and ease their transition to the working world. In practice-oriented workshops for small groups, participants practice various skills with the speakers, such as rhetoric, time-management and presentation techniques. In lectures, specialist speakers inform attendees about study and career-specific topics. Some of the courses are specifically aimed at female students, so the target audience is specified for each seminar.

Gender and diversity competence

Gender and diversity skills are becoming increasingly important in the workplace. Seminars, workshops, and training sessions on gender and diversity prepare students for these demands of the labor market and various fields of expertise. Therefore, during their studies, students will already be sensitized to methods of gender construction and be able to gain appropriate knowledge for their profession, such as ways to avoid abuses of power through sexual harassment, and obtain strategies to implement gender aspects in quality management processes. The seminars on gender and diversity competence are offered to female and male students alike.

Gender Certificate

Students can be certified for the acquisition of essential skills in gender and diversity management. The prerequisites are participation in at least four gender or diversity training courses conducted by the Women's Representative within the framework of LMU-PLUS, and writing a critical essay. More information about the gender certificate can be found here.

Students with family/care responsibilities

Students with parental or care responsibilities who raise children or attend to relatives in need of care face additional challenges during their studies and when starting their career. Their many obligations complicate the smooth operation of a course of study. Nevertheless, in order to successfully master this, training courses are offered that teach special study, reading and organizational techniques. These seminars are offered for female and male students.

In the 2013/2014 winter semester, the tandemPLUS mentoring program started as a pilot project. Pregnant students and students with parental or nursing/care responsibilities (mentees) are given professional and organizational support from a fellow student (mentor). The support related to their studies/major is intended to give mentees time flexibility when combining university studies with family responsibilities. Mentors are compensated for their time and effort.

Registration procedure

Registration takes place via the digital registration form. The respective target group and participation requirements must be observed and can be found in the seminar description. Registration is possible for a maximum of three LMU PLUS seminars per semester. Mentees and mentors can apply for tandemPLUS via a form on the website of the Women's Representative.

Events/Workshops and seminars

The courses are largely financed from central study grants. Further events of the LMU-PLUS program, specific contents of the seminars, and information about the speakers can be found here.
